GROC workday at Ontario County Park Sunday May 4th. 8:45am til 11am, depart for trailwork at 9am sharp.
GROC has been working with OCP landmanagers the last few months on a plan to add 15 miles of singletrack to the exisiting trail system already in place. This will provide diverse trail experience and help fullfill OCP master plan. This active work began last fall with a small group of GROC members donating time to work on the current trail system. Please go to GROC Advocacy page to read more about this. Current Project Managers are Rick Williams, Victor Gaspar and Casey Conte. If you are interested in being involved in the active responsible management and implimentation of this project please contact: Rick Williams at the above e-mail. If you are familiar with OCP and the current trail system and property we could use you to aid as a team leader on this day. Looking for some of the Wednesday Night Guild to take a role. This has been presented as a phased project that will be approx 1 to 2 years depending on volunteer time and phase acceptance. About the trailwork day: 8:45 am Meet Don Lyons, caretaker of OCP at the campground area. 8:45 til 9am hear about the proposed trails and phases, Rick Williams will present an overview of the proposed trail system 9am til 11 am Bring your bike we will break up the groups with team leaders to various sections of the exisiting trails and FLT. Objectives for the day: 1) Remove large trees and blocked trails, two chainsaw crews will be in contact with group leaders and dispatched accordingly. 2) Remove brush, fallen dead, leaves from trails, rake/burn in singletrack. 3) Create a "Kids trail" so bring rakes, clippers, handsaw. This will be layed out the week prior to workday along with OCP personel. 4) Sing up interested people who would like to provide leadership and assistance as this trail system project move forward. 5) If you have a leaf blower you would like to use that would be great and can be dispatched accordingly 6) Please DO NOT bring power tools/chainsaws etc. The project leaders will take care of those. If you are a forester, lumberjack or arbourist please contact Rick Williams or Victor Gaspar and we'll have you help in or run a crew. If you have never been to OCP this area can easily rival Ellicottville and any other place in the NE. Camping, Fires, Showers etc are all part of this great park. They want us to use it, we'll help to make it better. |
