Penfield Sherwood Parcel

The Sherwood Parcel

Sherwood Fields in Penfield NY --- NO WORD ON THIS AND LOOKING LIKE IT WILL BE NOT SHARED_USE

Directions: Google Maps
2514 Penfield Rd, Fairport, NY

The Sherwood Parcel:  The Sherwood parcel was recently acquired by the Town of Penfield to add to their Open Space Land Program. This 85-acre parcel is located approximately one mile east of Rt. 250 and Rt. 441 intersection on Rt. 441 between Salt Rd. and Gloria Drive. This parcel was a private hunting preserve that the town would like to create a network of multiple-use trails available for use all four seasons. This will be developed as a low impact park offering a wide variety of experiences for all levels of activity. The trail network will be anchored by a central main trail with sustainable multiple-use singletrack  trails providing a wide level of variety and challenge. These trails will be created using sustainable trail design and building techniques. If you live in the Town of Penfield and or want to help with this project stay tuned.

  • Fall/Winter 2007-2008 construction of parking area by Penfield
  • Fall 2007 to Spring 2008 Trail design, layout and construction of trail network

THANK YOU for the trails development work so far!
written by Tim Murphy, January 25, 2008
Hi, I want to share a big THANK YOU to everyone for all the help so far on the Sherwood property trails development here in Penfield. The town officials have been very supportive, especially Mike Cooper, Debbie Drawe and Geoff Benway, and things are getting done! Rick Williams also has been a great advocate, planner and doer! It is easy to imagine cross country skiers and snow shoers using the trails in the winter, and hikers, walkers, bird watchers and bikers the other seasons. We look forward to the continued assistance and progress! GREAT JOB!!!

Update on Sherwood Parcel, Town of Penfield
written by rick, December 02, 2007
Here is what is recently happenning regarding the Town of Penfields 85 acre Multiple-use Trail Sherwood parcel. The Town of Penfield is currently installing a stone base parking area and will be ready for this spring(2008). Tom Robinson from ED&R will be creating a long term Master Plan for this park so that funding for the central core trail and needed site development in the future can be secured. A group of Penfield residents as well as VMTBCs own Jon Brown, Rick Williams and Brian Mazjcek will be the main contacts. This site will be used for a Town of Penfield Sustainable Trail Design, Layout and Construction program this spring through the Town of Penfield Parks and Recreation Department. This will be a hands on course using sustainable trail principles and acutally build a few trail sections. Keep checking back on this for updates.
